Strategies for Success and Plans for Achievement

Academic success isn’t just about what you do on your own—it’s about how you leverage the support and resources around you. This page offers tips on creating your success strategies, planning for achievement, and finding the people and tools at TXST that can help you bounce back and thrive.

Strategies for Success

Your academic success strategy is a broad plan that outlines your goals and provides direction. It defines your long-term objectives and the core principles that guide your daily decisions. Your strategy answers the 'what' and 'why' of your academic journey.

Plans for Achievement

Your plans focus on short-term steps to meet strategic milestones. Effective plans are specific, time-bound, and answer 'how,' 'when,' and 'who.' You will have different plans for different parts of your strategy. Maintaining balance is key to successful planning.

Don't Go It Alone

You don’t have to navigate this journey alone. At TXST, you are surrounded by people and resources ready to help you define your strategies, develop and maintain your plans, and achieve your goals. Seeking support is not just a smart move—it’s a vital part of your academic success. Below are some suggestions for who you might reach out to for help in specific areas, but remember, this is just a starting point. There are many more resources available to support you.

Who Can Help?

Who Can Help?

  • Any person or service that can help you with a plan can also assist with your strategy, but Bobcats Bounce Back specifically focuses on this aspect. Meeting with a Success Strategy Consultant might feel a bit different because the conversation is centered entirely on you. They’ll ask questions about your goals, ambitions, interests, hobbies, high school and college experiences, and even where you like to spend your time. The meeting is all about you because your strategy should reflect who you are. Academic success is a key part of it, but so is success in other areas of life that matter to you.

During a Success Strategy meeting, you and your consultant will work together to better understand your strategy and what it entails. From there, you'll identify the people and resources that can help you develop the plans needed to achieve your goals.

  • While your strategy guides your decisions across various areas of life, your plans focus on specific, short-term goals that support your strategy. The most effective help with plans will come from experts in those specific domains. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of people at TXST who can assist you in developing and implementing various plans:

    • Academic Advisors can help with a range of plans, including graduation plans, registration plans, major exploration plans, and other academic-related goals. If you’re unsure where to start with a college-related question, an Academic Advisor is always a great first point of contact.
    • Success Coaches are learning strategy specialists. Whether you’re rethinking your time management, looking for new active learning strategies, or seeking ways to overcome procrastination, a Success Coach is exactly who you want in your corner.
    • Career Educators and Counselors are invaluable when it comes to planning your career transition, starting your internship search, or exploring how you can use your skills to make a positive impact on the world.

These are just a few examples of the support available to you. The Counseling Center, Dean of Students, University Health Services, and your faculty are all additional resources who can help you with various plans you’re working on.

Remember, seeking support is a strength, and utilizing these resources can greatly enhance your ability to achieve your goals.

Bobcats Bounce Back Higher Together

Your strategies and plans start with you—they’re built on your goals, strengths, and values. But they achieve even greater results when you incorporate your community and resources. By now, you have a rough idea of what goes into a strategy and what kinds of things you might plan for. The next step is to enlist support. Whether you reach out to Jason or Shayne from B3, your Academic Advisor, a favorite faculty member, or a family member or friend, you’ll find that everything becomes more achievable with support.
